Laurie Broughton is a portrait and documentary photographer specialising in community-based projects and social issues. By immersing himself in the communities he photographs, he develops a deep understanding of his subjects, challenging preconceived notions of identity and cultural stereotypes. His long-term practice looks beyond surface assumptions, seeking to reveal the textures of place and belonging that are so easily overlooked.
Alongside his personal and documentary practice, Laurie also works commercially, delivering thoughtful and authentic photography for organisations, publications and creative projects. His approach combines the sensitivity and observational qualities of his documentary work with a strong understanding of the needs of a commercial brief.
Graduating from the Documentary Photography course at the University of South Wales (USW), he went on to complete a PGCE. He has also completed an MA in Fine Art Photography at the University of the West of England (UWE).
