Laurie Broughton is a documentary photographer specialising in social issues and community-based projects. After graduating from the Documentary Photography course at the University of South Wales (USW), he went on to complete a PGCE and now teaches photography at a college in the Welsh Valleys.
In both his photographic practice and research, He seeks to challenge preconceived notions of identity and cultural stereotypes. By immersing himself in the communities he photographs, he develops a deeper understanding of his subjects, allowing him to look beyond surface-level assumptions. His work questions outdated perspectives and aims to challenge societal norms through immersive, long-term image-making.
